Happy New Year All! It's 2010 and Hidden Lounge is changing things up a little...for this months event Sunday, January 31st we will be hosting a four course brunch tasting menu at a secret location downtown and we are pleased to tell you that ALL of the proceeds from our event will be donated to Red Cross to help those in Haiti who are in desperate need of our help.
We hope to see you there!

Brunch Tasting Menu
served with a mimosa to start!

First Course

Bacon & Eggs - Double smoked maple syrup pork belly with an egg served sunnyside up and sour dough toast

Second Course

Brioche French Toast - Berries and a ricotta and grand marnier mix stuffed into fresh brioche bread and baked in the oven

Third Course

Potato Tortilla - Eggs baked with layers of potatoes between caramelized onions and smoked trout and served with greens

- Chacuterie plate – smoked meats and cured meats including sausage, procuitto, pork belly, marinated olives, sauerkraut and assorted cheese

1 Year Anniversary

On May 31st Hidden Lounge celebrated it's 1 Year Anniversary! The festivities included various talents, we had two different artists showcasing their art work, live music, a dramatic improv scene, as well an artist doing on the spot portraits! We would like to thank everyone who has made Hidden Lounge a success over the last year...and of course thank you to all who came out to show their support on May 31st!

Roy is a local artist of many talents, his work has been showcased in the Distillery district and in the upcoming months you may also find his work featured at his latest art show in Yorkville. Gordon's talents range from a variety of different mediums, some including sculptures and paintings. Hidden Lounge is proud to be showcasing some of his most recent pieces! With Hidden Lounge growing, there's been a few new faces added to our team:

Sasha is a student and Humber and is studying advertising in media sales. She loves a red wine with dinner, any kind of seafood and has a sweet tooth.

Niki loves anything with fringe, Andy Warhol, finding the perfect pair of vintage boots, a good cup of coffee, writing a fabulous article and working at Hidden Lounge.

Jess has over nine years serving experience. When she's not at Hidden Lounge, she works at a non-profit organization as an International Programs Coordinator. She appreciates a well-made Americano, loves anything that involves goat cheese and can't get enough Roselle.

Hidden Lounge Sponsors Mercer Union's Reopening

Last night, Hidden Lounge was one of the proud sponsors of art gallery Mercer Union's Reopening Inaugural Gala.

Partygoers were able to sample our signature drink, Roselle, in the form of a unique martini created by Bulldog Gin, the "Lip Lock."

It turns out that our dinner guests aren't the only fans of Roselle--we were excited to see Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett drinking the Lip Lock during his performance.

Hidden Lounge wants to congratulate newlyweds Syril and Vivian who celebrated their wedding dinner with us.

The couple enjoyed a five-course tasting menu with a few good friends on a very special evening.

We wish you two all the best, and hope to see you again at our table sometime soon.

Summer is going by quickly, and Hidden Lounge has been filling it's table with some great people and delicious food.

Last night we celebrated this beautiful season with Gourmet Picnic, a 4-course tasting menu devoted to some of our favorite summer treats.

Everyone brought a friend, or two, and a bottle of wine, or two, or three....Needless to say it was a great night.

We started the evening with some gourmet salad tasters. Our guests enjoyed Greek salad skewers and a pear and arugula salad served with cambozola cheese, pickled ginger and a balsamic reduction.

The next treat was our gourmet sandwich trio of a bite sized mini burger, tuna melt and asiago grilled cheese.

As a main course, we served a beautiful portobello burger, made purely of vegetables, feta, fresh herbs with a red wine reduction.

The meal was finished with our take on a gourmet ice cream sandwich- homemade waffles served with French vanilla ice cream, hazelnut spread and gooseberries.

It was a sensual summer evening and we want to thank everyone who came by to enjoy it with us. Hope to see you again soon at Hidden Lounge!

grand opening

Thank you to everyone who came out to our grand opening Saturday night! It was a great kick off to our new business and we hope to see all of you guys around here more often.

With the grand opening quickly approaching we have been busy in the kitchen of Hidden Lounge.

Here's a sample of some of the tasty bites we're coming up with, along with recipes so you can try them out in your own kitchen!

Mini Bagels (to be served with mini burger patties)

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp yeast

1. Mix water with yeast so that yeast dissolves
2. Mix flour, olive oil and salt in a mixing bowl
3. Slowly add yeast and water mixture
4. Add flour until dough is firm
5. Let dough sit for an hour
6. Roll out dough and pat with flour
7. Cut dough into small pieces, roll in your hands, poke a hole in the middle, and form into mini bagel shapes
8. Put shaped bagels into boiling water until they float to the top
9. Brush with egg and water mixture and sprinkle with sesame seeds
10. Bake until golden

Rice Cakes with Chickpea and Vegetable Tapenade

Chickpea Tapenade

1 can of chickpeas
2 oz olive oil
2 cloves of garlic
salt and pepper
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
splash of sesame oil

1. Blend all ingredients together until the texture is smooth

Zucchini and Eggplant Tapenade

2 zucchini
1 eggplant
5 cloves of garlic
splash of sesame oil
pinch of ground cloves and cinnamon
salt and pepper

1. Chop zucchini and eggplant
2. Fry in oil with garlic until soft
3. Strain out liquid
4. Add spices, salt and pepper
5. Blend until smooth
